The challenges and life experiences of homesteading in rural high desert with gardening tips for the high desert garden

My eleven year old granddaughter’s feelings about desert living.

It’s not as easy as it seems, you don’t get to have heating systems like in the city or during the summer you don’t get AC.  The things I miss the most is not having running water or electricity to do all the fun things you can do in the city

Living in the desert you have to save water instead of waste it. If you have farm animals you have to constantly go down to the city and get water in plastic water tanks so they have water to drink from. Also you don’t get to take showers the same. Like I said you have to save water so you take them a special way to make sure you have enough water for every one else to take showers

Sometimes you can buy generators to help run electricity through your house so you can watch TV or play a small game system. You don’t get as much electricity as you get in the city you learn to save electricity when you move to the desert; you also have to remember to unplug your things at night so they don’t drain all your power from the back up batteries. If you don’t unplug the stuff then you won’t have any in the morning to watch TV or play on the computer, or the stuff you do in the morning.

But being in the desert isn’t all bad I mean you get to see the beautiful sky at night. And you get to see pretty animals, like rabbits’ ground squirrels, chuckar’s, and many more. There are really pretty mountains where I live, we also live by the Navy bombing area, but don’t worry we are far away from where they bomb.
